RATE OF PAY:                              Successful applicants will be guaranteed a single room in                                                   residence as remuneration for the position.



Academic Dons are responsible for providing students and Residence Life Team members with academic support and programmes in the residential environment. Academic Dons are not assigned to an individual floor or house community; however, are expected to assume responsibility for supporting a broad range of academic programming for their residence complex communities and across campus. Academic Dons are expected to demonstrate a commitment to residence life and the academic community at Nipissing University by working to create a sense of community that contributes to individual growth.


Some of the duties and responsibilities of an Academic Don include:

     Fostering a positive, friendly and inclusive atmosphere throughout the residence community

     Support the development, marketing, and implementation of academic programs in accordance with the Academic Dons’ Programming Model

     Hold office hours on a regular basis for students to access, and refer students, when necessary, to appropriate on-campus resources for further support

     Assume on-call shifts according to the schedule and conduct responsibilities, which includes upholding the Residence Community Living Standards, and responding to potential emergency or crisis situations

     Communicate regularly, through a variety of means, with students, supervisors, and other Residence Life Team members to ensure the success of the Residence Life program

     Role model appropriate personal behaviour and academic success at all times, and by adhering to the Residence Community Living Standards and the Nipissing University Student Code of Conduct

     Prior to assuming the role, candidates must complete the following:

o      Attend Residence Life Team Spring Orientation

o      Online and in-person pre-service training

o      Completion and submission of all required paperwork prior to pre-service training in August, including a Criminal Reference Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening and Standard First Aid and CPR level C training

     Participate in ongoing training and workshops throughout the duration of employment

     Other duties as assigned


     Must be able to attend the Peer Educator Selection Carousel on Saturday, February 3, 2018

     Upper-Year Student (3rd year and above) with strong academic standing (cumulative average of 70% or higher).

     Excellent level of responsibility, reliability, and initiative.

     Good interpersonal communication skills and ease in relating to people from varying educational, cultural, and social backgrounds.

     Knowledge of Nipissing University programs, initiatives, and services that promote student academic and personal success.
