Scholarships, Bursaries and Awards
Nipissing takes great pride in offering students exceptional opportunities for learning, growth and friendship. We have progressed and expanded significantly since our inception, but we remain committed to the same nurturing, student-focused educational beliefs that have always set us apart from the other universities.
To continue to attract and retain the very best students and to ensure that no competitive students are deterred from attending Nipissing due to financial considerations, the university has created a number of opportunities to support student financial assistance. By funding a scholarship, bursary or award you can make a lasting difference in our students’ lives.
Establishing a Student Award
When you provide funding for a scholarship, bursary or award, you make a tangible difference to a student’s education, either by relieving some of the financial pressure that most students fell these days, by encouraging them to strive for continued academic excellence, or by rewarding them for the on-going and in-depth community commitment that many of our students exhibit through their volunteer efforts. Your gift may be targeted toward a specific academic area, for either upper year or entering students, or may be left to the discretion of Nipissing University to help students with the greatest need. You may also choose what type of funding you wish to provide.
Endowing Your Gift
The most common way to support a scholarship, bursary or award on an annual basis is through and endowment fund. A personal, named endowment fund is like an institutional savings account whereby money is permanently invested and only the interest is spent each year (up to 5%). Should any endowment earn more that the disbursement amount (of up to 5%) in any given year, the surplus income earned is recapitalized on the principal amount, thereby protecting it against inflation. The minimum requirement needed to establish a named endowment is $10,000, which would provide an annual award valued up to $500. The most attractive aspect of an endowment fund is that it is a permanent living memorial that gives in perpetuity.
Matching Your Gift – Dollar for Dollar!
Give today to student aid at Nipissing and you can double the impact of your gift thanks to the Ontario Trust for Student Support. Through this program, the provincial government matches, dollar-for-dollar, all new donations that individuals or corporations make to endowed bursaries or awards with a financial need component.
