Nipissing University has embarked on a $14 million construction project to expand the Robert J. Surtees Student Athletics Centre to address the increasing demand for physical health facilities and multi-use activity spaces.
The expansion will feature a double gymnasium, new exercise area and additional change room space for various user groups. It will provide state-of-the-art athletics facilities for the student population, improve extracurricular programming and offer additional space for community events. The new facility will also play a key role in providing enhanced programming for the growing Bachelor of Physical and Health Education program that prepares students to become community leaders in the education and promotion of health, active lifestyles.
Phase 1 is under construction and is expected to open in September 2011.
For further information concerning this initiative, please contact Gil Pharand, Senior Development Officer at 705-474-3450 ext. 4361 or email gilp@nipissingu.ca.
