Funding Priorities

In 2011, Nipissing University developed the Adopt-A-Laker program to provide financial assistance to its varsity sports programs.

This financial aid is key to the continuation of sport excellence at Nipissing University and assists today’s motivated and talented student-athletes in their journey to become tomorrow’s leaders.

Being a student-athlete at Nipissing University requires a significant amount of dedication both academically and athletically. With an average of approximately 15 hours per week dedicated to training in addition to being full-time students, most student-athletes experience the added financial strain of not having the time to take on a part-time job. This makes it difficult for them to pay the expenses associated with playing competitive sports.

The Adopt-A-Laker program provides essential support for Lakers teams. It provides an avenue for alumni, donors, friends and family who wish to be involved in the lives of our diligent student-athletes. It also provides a networking opportunity for Lakers athletes and coaches with the broader community.

Your contributions will assure an enduring legacy for Lakers Athletics

Scholarships, Bursaries and Awards

We are very grateful to our donors who support our Scholarships, Bursaries and Awards program. Together we know the importance of recognizing student achievement and assisting with financial need.

At Nipissing we work very hard to keep tuition fees as low as possible while providing a superior educational experience. However; we also understand that the financial burden on our students is very real. To help ease this burden, last year more than $2 million in financial aid was awarded to more than 1,600 students.

At Nipissing, we aim to ensure access and opportunity for all students through merit- and needs-based student awards. Your investments help our students become effective and engaged global citizens.

President’s Discretionary Fund

The President’s Discretionary fund is a flexible source of support for the entire campus. The fact that these gifts are unrestricted gives the University flexibility to address specific funding priorities and the ability to take advantage of unexpected opportunities as they arise. The funds are only used to support initiatives that have a direct impact on our students and to seize exciting opportunities.

We are committed to providing our students with the best possible educational resources, academic quality, and facilities to help them mature into the leaders of tomorrow. Your gift to the President’s Discretionary Fund will help to achieve this.

Although the above areas are a priority at this time, please feel free to direct your support to another area such as library acquisitions, research, aboriginal initiatives, or a specific department or program.
