Communications Policy

The Integrated Marketing Communications (IMC) department within External Relations & Advancement exists to strategize and provide accurate, timely and pertinent information about Nipissing University to many audiences, through a variety of mediums. The department acts as the official voice for Nipissing University either through direct initiative, responsive contact or through the orchestration with others within the Nipissing University community.

In fulfilling its roles and responsibilities Integrated Marketing Communications administers various policies, procedures and communication tools.

The Manager of IMC should be advised of all contact by Nipissing University employees and volunteers with the media or outside publications in order to ensure that the Office responsible for the institutional voice is aware and current of all key contacts when representing Nipissing University interests.

Any request for interviews or profiles of Nipissing University employees or volunteers with media or publications should be orchestrated through the Manager of IMC in order to ensure consistency of message.

The President, Vice-President Academic & Research, Vice-President Administration and Finance are to be considered the "primary" sources for official commentary. Other points of contact may be identified in specific situations.

The IMC office will be the sole area responsible and authorized to produce and disburse Press Releases officially conveying Nipissing University interests. Any area of the University wishing to communicate an issue in this manner is to deal with IMC and specifically the Communications Officer, or Manager of IMC as a final resource.

IMC will be responsible for developing, introducing and administering the institution’s Communications Plan and Crisis Communications Plan devised by the Manager of IMC.

The Manager of IMC oversees many communication tools, for both internal and external audiences, which may require contributions from various individuals such as writing, photography or design. Each tool has specific timelines for accepting contributions and input, which are associated with the production process for each. For further information, please contact The Manager of IMC.

Communications with Students and Applicants

Nipissing University issues an e-mail account to all students and applicants. This account is accessed through the Nipissing University Portal, which is password protected and requires username and login. It is the policy of the University to send students and applicants official communications to their university assigned e-mail address and it is their responsibility to check their e-mail in a timely manner. Failure to read university communications sent to the university e-mail in a timely manner, does not absolve students and applicants from knowing, responding to, or complying with the content of the communication.

Nipissing University does not recommend that students and applicants forward their university e-mail to another account, as they could miss important communications that may affect their university career.
