Advertising and Publications Policy

General Policy:

The Office for External Relations & Advancement – Integrating Marketing & Communications (IMC) is responsible for all forms of institutional Marketing. As such, IMC oversees the use of the institutional logo, wordmark and strategic positioning statement and how they are used in representing the University to various audiences on all geographic fronts and through all mediums. It is critical that all areas of campus that undertake any marketing related exercises consult with IMC, specifically the Advertising Publications Officer or Manager of IMC, to ensure that Nipissing’s name, image and message remain consistent, accurate and strong.

As part of its responsibilities in overseeing University-wide Marketing, IMC conducts an annual campus-wide audit of marketing needs of all departments. From this process, marketing needs are compiled with the associated timeframes and resources for all initiatives.

All marketing initiatives within the University should liaise with IMC to ensure that all logo, messages and visual imagery are compliant with the University’s set standards and to benefit from the economies of scale that exist as a result of the volume of initiatives orchestrated through the Office for any collateral pieces being produced.

Marketing also works within the Nipissing environment to continually assess the effectiveness of the University’s strategic Marketing initiatives and its presence and therefore conducts Marketing research to qualify its initiatives.

Key policy and procedural steps that should be respected are as follows:

  • When using the University’s name, logo, positioning statement or visual image, IMC should be consulted.
  • When producing collateral marketing pieces, IMC should be consulted and preferably involved in their production.
  • All areas of campus will be invited and encouraged to submit their needs for marketing as part of the annual marketing audit.
  • Any updates to the primary tiers of the University’s website (especially if impacting the image, strategic positioning or messaging) are to be orchestrated by IMC.
  • All external advertising should be reviewed by IMC to ensure consistency of logo, image and messaging.
