Question:

What’s the difference between UTS (University Technology Services) and iTeach?

  • Answer:
Think of iTeach as ‘teachers’ of the program.  We are here to teach you about your computers and teach you about the various applications and tools available to you.  The iTeach experience will expose you to a variety of Educational Technology (ET) options to show you effective ways of integrating ET within the K-12 teaching and learning environments.
  • UTS, which is also the location for the on campus Apple Service Centre, will assist you with anything that may not be working properly (e.g., your External Hard Drive is not loading properly, a program consistently freezes up).  When in doubt, ask.  We will guide you in the right direction!

Question:
Where can I purchase my Macbook?

  • Answer:
Visit the main Nipissing University Website (Click the Nipissing Logo at the bottom of the page).  Log into Web Advisor by clicking on “My Nipissing”.  Once you’ve logged in, along the right side you will see the iTeach Apple Online Store and Pricelist.  Check things out!
Question:

How can I convert a video file so that I can use it on my mac? (e.g., insert into PowerPoint)

  • Answer:
A free easy-to-use site you can use is called Zamzar.  Visit www.zamzar.com and follow the simple 4 step procedure.  You’ll have a variety of options for file extensions for music, documents and videos.  When working with video, a universal file extension that will work is .mov.  If your file is too large Zamzar may not work for you.  If that’s the case contact an iTeach team member for further guidance.

Question:
What can I do to help get me started for the upcoming education year?

  • Answer:
A great place to visit it the Apple Online resource pool of video tutorials.  Check it out: http://www.apple.com/ca/mac/

Question:
I’m hooked up to a data projector, but all I see is my desktop background.  Where are all my icons and menus?

  • Answer:
No worries, this is a quick fix!  You just need to make sure your displays are ‘mirrored’.  To do this, stay connected to the data projector and go up to your ‘apple’ icon on the top left corner of your screen.  Select “Systems Preferences”, then “Displays”.  Once your Display menu pops up, choose the middle tab titled, “Arrangement” and along the bottom left side you’ll see a box beside the word “Mirror”.  Make sure that box has a check mark, and you should be good to go!
