Mentorship

The Mentorship Model in the Laurier – Nipissing Concurrent Education Program is based on research findings supporting the benefits of Mentors in the development of Teacher Candidates. In this model, Teacher Candidates in the first year of the program (Novices) are paired with more experienced Teacher Candidates in the second and third year (Mentors) of the program.
The Mentorship pair is placed in the same practicum setting in order to capitalize on the expertise of the Mentor and to allow guidance and co-learning to occur from observation, planning and reflection.  The Mentor begins the practicum in an assigned classroom in mid-October. The first year Teacher Candidate (Novice) begins the practicum in January.
The Mentorship pair works together throughout the second term, with guidance from the Associate Teacher and Faculty Advisor.
