Aboriginal Services

​​The goal of the Aboriginal Services is to assist you in successfully completing your degree or diploma program at Nipissing University and to have an enriching experience while you are a student here. We provide access to personal, academic and financial support services for First Nation, Metis and Inuit students. We also host social and cultural gatherings for the entire campus community. • We work in partnership with the students, staff and faculty, and with First Nation, Metis and Inuit communities and organizations to provide the following services:

• Cultural and Social Activities 
• Need assistance with academic planning and academic needs? We offer:
  
• Workshops on topics such as essay writing, notetaking and student success strategies. Be sure to check with the Student Success Coordinator on upcoming workshop dates. 
  
• Peer Academic Leaders: Do you have questions that you would like to ask a fellow student? Upper-year Aboriginal students provide information and academic support to peers in the Aboriginal student lounge (Room F215).
• Academic Advising Outreach: Academic Advisors are in the Aboriginal student loung (Room F215) monthly for student appointments. Call or drop by to sign up for an appointement. They can assist with academic questions relating to program selection, course choices and meeting degree requirements. See Upcoming Events
• ​Need help with budgeting, funding and sponsorship assistance? We provide:
• Assistance with completion of application forms and other documentation required for sponsoring agencies.
  
• Use of the fax machine and telephone. 
• Referrals and additional information on alternate sources of funding. 
• Want to apply for scholarships, bursaries and awards? We offer:
  
• Access to and assistance with completion of scholarships, bursaries and awards.
  
• Information sessions held in October and January.

• Looking for employment or career opportunities?
  
• We post and circulate various public notices from local, regional and national companies advertising career opportunities and employment.
  
• We can refer you for help to explore career opportunities. 
• Would you like someone to talk to?
  
• We welcome you to drop by,  call or email. We can talk with you or connect you to resources for help adjusting to university life, balancing responsibilities at home and at school, relationships, health and more. 
  
• Would you like to enhance your university experience by taking part in cultural celebrations and social activities?
  
• We host cultural gatherings and educational events for all students, staff and faculty throughout the academic year.
  
• We invite guest speakers to share insights on various topics.

​​The Aboriginal Student Lounge is located in Room F215. It offers a relaxing atmosphere where you can study, view and/or borrow information on Aboriginal issues, seek assistance on matters related to your academic studies, or enjoy a break between classes.
