Community Outreach

Aboriginal Services and Programs staff work with Aboriginal communities and organizations to share exciting postsecondary opportunities for aboriginal youth and adults. We organized events and share information about Nipissing University's academics and support programs and attend community career fairs in Aboriginal communities and other larger events across Ontario and Quebec.

One exciting event that is offered is called "Aiming Higher" - a recruitment project for Aboriginal youth designed to allow them to experience life as a university student first-hand.

  • Youth are invited on campus for a campus tour. This includes a tour of the library, theatre-style classrooms, lunch in the cafeteria and of course a visit to the Aboriginal Student Lounge, Enji giigdoyang.
  • Youth are matched with a university student in a program of their choice and have

the opportunity to attend two university lectures.

  • Youth attend a career symposium either in their home community or at the Nipissing

           University campus in the fall.

Watch the events calendar for more information on "Aiming Higher". If your school, or group, is interested in the "Aiming Higher" experience, please give our office a call.
