Accommodation

For Convocation, rates at our Chancellors House residence start at $34.50 per person per night (including taxes); and $ 119    for a full unit per night (including taxes).

Bank Machines

Two bank machines are available on campus, inside the entrance of the Education Centre.  They are located on the same side as Pal's Variety store near the windows.

Cafeteria

The main cafeteria is open Monday to Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.  The cafeteria will be closed on Saturday, June 12.

Campus Shop

University memorabilia (sweats, mugs, etc.) are available for sale in the Campus Shop.  The Campus Shop accepts Interac, cash and credit cards.  Hours of operation during Convocation will be posted at a later date.

Note:  School rings will be available for sale during Convocation weekend on the main campus.  The vendor will be located in the hall outside the Library.

All special guests, members of the platform party, members of the Band, honorary degree recipients, award winners, valedictorians and student and staff volunteers are invited to attend a luncheon on Wednesday, June 9; Thursday, June 10, and Friday, June 11 from 11:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. in Room A246.

Convocation Photos

Heritage Directories and Photography will be on site during Convocation for those who missed an opportunity to have graduation portraits taken earlier in the year. They will be located in room A241. Each day (Wendesday through Friday) they will be set up all day from 9:00 am - 5:30 pm.

The photos will be taken on a first come, first served basis.

Degrees

Graduates must pick up their degree AFTER THE CEREMONY in room A223. The room will be open until 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.  Students will be asked to present their I.D. card and will also be required to "sign" for their degree.

Elevators

The following are the directions to the nearest elevator (from the Nipissing front entrance) to get to the main gymnasium:

  • from the main entrance, walk to the end of the hall (past the Arts & Science and Education offices)
  • turn right
  • the elevator is located int he hallwayimmediate right
  • take the elevator down one flight
  • exit the elevator, go straight to the end of the hall
  • turn right at the end of the hall
  • the main gym is on the left

Flowers

Fresh flowers will be available for purchase from the Convocation Flowers kiosks before and after Convocation ceremonies at two locations – in the main lobby (F-wing foyer) or outside the main cafeteria on the lower level.  It is recommended that presentation of flowers be made after the graduate steps off the stage and returns to

Framing of Degrees

Graduates may have their degrees framed outside the Library following each Convocation.  Please see complete details below:

You can have your degree framed on the spot - it only takes a few minutes. If you pre-order your degree frames for your degree or if you would like to have your degree framed and your degree has already been conferred earlier in the academic year and you have already received it in the mail, please bring your degree with you to the framing tables.

These special frames highlight your degree and your pride in being a Nipissing University grad! Proceeds from the program are used to support on-going student programs and services.

Discount applies to pre-orders only – regular prices will be in effect as of May 11, 2010. Visa, American Express, MasterCard (with expiry dates), cheques and money orders (payable to Nipissing University) are acceptable. For North Bay residents not attending Convocation, you can stop by our office to pick up your pre-ordered frame the beginning of June and save the shipping - Room F215.

Grad Party

Grad parties will be held on Wednesday, June 9th, Thursday, June 10th, and Friday, June 11th. The party begins at 9:00 p.m. at The Wall.

Pal's Variety Store

Pal's Variety Store is located in the main entrance of The Education Centre.  The following are the hours of operation during Convocation:

Parking

Guests may park in any of the parking lots on campus.  There is one parking lot designated as “Visitor” (Lot 4) directly across from the entrance to Nipissing University.  There is no parking fee for any of the Convocation dates.  Please note that the parking lots may be crowded.  Several handicapped parking spaces are available alongside the gym and a couple of spots are available in the "Visitor" parking lot (Lot 4).

  • payphones are available on campus in the following locations:
    • across the hall from the main gym entrance
    • at the bottom of the stairwell leading to the main cafeteria, go through the stairwell doors, turn left, phones are on the left
    • across from the Library, near the elevator
    • near the washrooms adjacent to the Registrar's Office in the Nipissing entrance
    • in The Education Centre front entrance near the windows in front of the bank machines

Regalia
  • Students:

    Students are asked to pick up their gown and hood in room A236 (gown sizes include small, medium, large and extra large).  Students who do not pick up their Regalia ½ hour prior to their ceremony on the day of graduation will not be allowed to participate.  Students may keep their regalia until after the reception, but are asked to return it to Room A234 before leaving the university.

  • Faculty:

    On the day of Convocation, faculty members may pick up a plain black gown from the Regalia Room (A236).  There is no charge.

    All full-time and part-time faculty members are able to rent their regalia for the Convocation ceremony.   Notification must be made to the Office of Student Development (Lianne Gagne ext. 4491), in writing or email, indicating the degree and university of the hood to be rented.  The orders will be placed by May 1.  The Accounting office will issue an invoice to the Faculty member for the rental costs.  This fee will include taxes and delivery charges.  The regalia will be delivered to the faculty member’s mailbox.  Please note that rental hoods are not received until the day before Convocation.  Regalia must be returned to the Regalia Room (A234) no later than Friday, June 11, 2010.  Rental fees for Bachelor, Master and Doctor hoods are usually $10.00.  The cost of damaged or lost hoods is the responsibility of the faculty member.  The replacement value for hoods ranges from $45 to $75; taxes are extra.

Water is supplied for Convocation immediately outside the main gymnasium.  It is also sold in vending machines at the entrance of The Education Centre and in vending machines outside the main cafeteria.
