Welcome to Computer Science

CERN

Nipissing's Computer Science majors receive a strong foundation in Computer Science theory and applications such as neural networks, artificial intelligence, robotics, graphics, distributed systems, computer security and software engineering. Students also have the opportunity to conduct their own research in an Honours Research course.

A flexible system of elective courses allows you to tailor your studies to either a more practical or theoretical emphasis. Students more inclined to take the practical approach can choose courses such as Project Management or The Computing Profession, while those who are more theoretically inclined or are considering postgraduate studies can select courses such as Theory of Computation, Programming Paradigms or Honours Research.

Students have the opportunity to participate in practicum placement courses in a wide range of government institutions or private firms. Placements are designed to provide valuable practical experience in addition to helping to establish contacts for possible future employment opportunities.

Nipissing's Computer Science students have access to state-of-the-art computing facilities and most teaching spaces are networked and equipped with multimedia technologies. Students with laptops will benefit from Nipissing’s convenient wireless network access throughout the campus.

Some of the Graduates of Nipissing University's Computer Science program have found employment in the Silicon Valley while others are continuing graduate studies at renowned institutions such as Harvard Univeristy.
