Located within driving distance of Orillia and Barrie, programs include Child and Family Studies, Culture and the Arts, Liberal Arts and teaching options.
Earn a BA (Honours) in Contemporary Studies from Laurier and a BEd from Nipissing as well as practice teach in the Public or Catholic schools near Brantford.
The Primary/Junior division prepares the candidate to teach from Junior Kindergarten to Grade 6. Applicants do not choose teaching subjects.

Option Courses
The following additional courses are offered to interested students. These courses can be taken concurrently with the one-year program and are in addition to it. Please note that not all courses are offered each year.

Students intending to teach in the Separate School Boards should be aware that preference in hiring will be given to students with a pre-service Religious Education course.
The Junior/Intermediate division prepares the candidate to teach from Grade 4 to Grade 10 with specific preparation in one teaching subject. Candidates must have at least three full undergraduate courses (18 credits) in the teaching subject selected. Teachable subjects offered at Nipissing are English (First Language), Geography, History, Mathematics, Music-Instrumental, Health and Physical Education, Science-General, Visual Arts, French (Second Language), and Religious Education.
Note:
Candidates who choose French as a teaching subject must also successfully complete the French Language Proficiency Test (both oral and written components). Applicants who choose Visual Arts or Music-Instrumental as a teaching subject must have a minimum of three full undergraduate studio or performance courses (18 credits) respectively. Applicants with more than the minimum course requirements may be given preference.

The Intermediate/Senior division prepares the candidate to teach from Grade 7 to 12 with specific preparation in two teaching subjects. Candidates must have at least five full undergraduate courses (30 credits) in the first teaching subject selected and at least three full undergraduate courses (18 credits) in the second teaching subject.
Two subject pairings of the following electives are required for students registering in the Intermediate/Senior Division.

The Faculty of Education offers to interested students the following option courses. These courses can taken concurrently with the one-year program and are in addition to it. Please note that not all courses are offered each year.
Electives
Each student in the Intermediate/Senior Division must choose two pairs of teaching electives from the following teaching subjects listed in Schedule A (Ontario Regulation 184/97). The teaching electives chosen must be paired (example: if EDUC 4467 Mathematics (Senior) as the second elective.)
One of the two teaching electives must be supported by a minimum of 30 credits (five full undergraduate courses) and the other teachable by a minimum of 18 credits (three full undergraduate courses) in their respective disciplines.
Students who wish to take a combination of two sciences (eg EDUC 4487 Science-Biology (Senior) and EDUC 4596 Science II.
Please note that this teaching subject prepares teachers of Religious Education in Roman Catholic schools. Roman Catholic Boards of Education require that student teachers be of the Catholic faith.
The Faculty of Education offers a one-year consecutive program leading to a Bachelor of Education degree. This program meets the requirements of the Ontario College of Teachers for teacher certification.
