Initiative Placements 2009-2010
During the 2009-2010 school year school boards in the Brantford area will be partnering with Nipissing University Brantford in the following initiatives:
BCI & VS Literacy Initiative
The goal of this partnership is to measurably increase the Grade 10 literacy test results of Applied Level BCI students by significantly dropping the ratio of student to instructor, increasing the intensity of attention each student receives.
You might be interested in this placement if:
- You are a Junior / Intermediate pre-service teacher
- You are working towards English as a teachable
- You are interested in the literacy program through the Grand Erie District School Board
PJC & VS Writing Centre Initiative
The goal of this partnership is to create supports that will assist PJC students in bridging the gap between secondary school and post-secondary school writing.
You might be interested in this placement if:
- You are a Junior / Intermediate pre-service teacher
- You are working towards English as a teachable
- You have strong writing skills
WebQuests: Technology and Music Initiative
The goal of this partnership is to provide Teacher Candidates with the opportunity to apply the IT skills you have been exploring, and implement a unit of study you have developed as part of the iTEACH and Music Education programs.
You might be interested in this placement if:
- You are a Junior / Intermediate pre-service teacher
- You would be interested in doing a placement in Brantford (GEDSB). (If you did not choose this Board on your practicum form, this can be changed).
- You have had a performance evaluation of Proficient or higher on your previous practicum placements. -You have some background or an interest in technology and/or music.
- You are interested in participating in cutting-edge research.
Virtual Grand E Communication
The goal of this partnership are to have results in the following areas:
- An increased, practical ICT awareness within the Nipissing University student body;
- The realization of Nipissing’s goal of the realistic integration of technology into practicum placements;
- The effective support of the iTEACH initiative;
- The increased opportunities for meaningful ICT-based educational interactions for student-learners within Grand Erie practicum classrooms;
- The maximization of technology to improve communication, use of data, and learning;
- The develop mentorships and encourage partnerships;
- The engagement of all students in authentic learning.

- You have an interest in technology and computers
- Learning about different ways to use technology within the classroom setting
- Learning more about a Mac computer, and Mac software
Literacy Project Six Nations Initiative
The goal of this partnership is to create and implement programs and in-service sessions to be offered at Six Nations of the Grand River schools. As well as to provide Teacher Candidates with the opportunity to teach in Six Nations classrooms.
You might be interested in this placement if:
- You recognize and appreciate the culture of the Six Nations
- You have special interest of Six Nations of the Grand River schools with respect to Aboriginal Education and educational equity
