Edgecombe, Trachsel commit to Nipissing
The Nipissing University men’s
volleyball program is pleased to announce the commitment
of two recruits
for the 2009-2010 season.
Middle blocker Frankie Edgecombe,
who hails from Elmvale, and Stratford’s Spencer Trachsel have both accepted
to the University and at 6’5” and 6’4” respectively
add considerable size to the Lakers roster.
“We had both of these guys up a few weeks ago
for a recruiting weekend, and the coaches were very
impressed with both of them. First, they are very nice
young men, very good students; and second they have
really good all around skills for big guys” says
Lakers coach Grant Ross.
“They both have some experience
as club volleyball players in the OVA, which is always
a plus.”
Edgecombe has the size and reach
to be a very effective middle blocker, touching very
close to 11’ in
physical testing. He is also a competent passer and
defender who hits very well out of the back row which
will surely create options for the Lakers next year.
Trachsel excelled at middle for his St. Mikes high
school team and also brings a lot of beach experience.
He is more than capable of playing left side or right
side and is very mobile for his size which allows him
to pass and defend well. He also brings a consistent
spin serve to the mix.
“Both of these guys have frames that will support
some physical development and I think they will be
limited only in how much they want to work to develop
their potential. These two athletes are the start of
another strong recruiting class for next year, and
definitely add to our size as we continue to progress
as a program” added Ross.
