In 2009, the Lakers men and women's cross country program will be progressing toward our goal of developing a strong cross country program provincially and nationally.

As a new or returning student-athlete, you can have the best of both worlds by joining a progressive and dynamic university that parallels our young and dynamic varsity cross country program. The team will carry a maximum of 10 men and 10 women on the varsity travelling squad, however anyone not meeting our team standard will still be encouraged to train with the team on our developmental squad and may be able to participate in a few select races. As a new student-athlete, you have a great opportunity of stepping in and contributing to our team and making an immediate impact, an opportunity that may not be available at larger schools.

Nipissing University is situated in North Bay, only 3.5 hours from Toronto. We are located on a stunning 720 acre escarpment surrounded by challenging running trails and beautiful clean lakes. Nipissing is a young, vibrant University that ranks among the highest in student satisfaction because Nipissing University offers a personalized environment in which you can achieve personal excellence academically and athletically. Come and be part of our success.

Selection to the Laker's travelling squad will be based upon performance at the Laurentian and Intrasquad Races. Approximate time standards for the men's travelling squad will be 5km <18:00 or 10km <36:00. For the women's travelling squad, the approximate time standards will be 5km <22:00. However, we do encourage anyone who is interested in trying out and training with the team to come out, even if you do not currently meet these standards. To be eligible, you must be enrolled in a full-time program; pay the athletic fee; attend minimally three practices a week; and be available for weekend competitions.
