Definition of terms as relevant to this policy:
 
External Awards: awards that are adjudicated and selection of the recipients is done by an external organization.  Examples: SSHRC, NSERC, CHIR, OGS, McKenzie King.
Internal Awards: awards that are adjudicated and selection of the recipients is done by an internal Nipissing University committee. Example: Nipissing Graduate Scholarship (NGS)
Tier 1 Awards: any award, internal or external of an annual value of $10,000.00 or greater
Tier 2 Awards: any award, internal or external, of an annual value of less than $10,000.00
Students awarded only external awards:
There is no limit to the number or total value of external awards a student may have provided they adhere to the granting agencies policies.
 
Students awarded only internal awards:
Students may hold one Tier 1 or one Tier 2 award
 
Students awarded a combination of internal and external awards:
Students who have been awarded a Tier 1 external award cannot simultaneously hold a Tier 1 internal award.  If the student is offered both awards, he or she will be required to decline the Tier 1 internal award.
Students who have been awarded a Tier 1 external award may hold one Tier 2 internal award.
