General Info
Each May and June, Nipissing University provides an on-campus intersession in North Bay and Brantford for graduating BEd students. This session allows candidates to expand on their qualifications in a very short time frame immediately following their BEd completion. All of our professional development courses are degree credit courses and are recognized by OCT. This can be an important factor for pay category purposes with QECO and OSSTF. The courses increase your marketability in a very competitive job market and courses like Special Education are often a condition of hire.
In May we will offer Primary, Junior, Intermediate, and Senior ABQs in North Bay. We will also offer Special Education, Part I and, possibly, FSL, Part I in North Bay. Intersession courses will also be offered in Brantford.
The May courses have 4-weeks in-class (April 30 to May 24). You should count on full-days for the 4-week onsite session and if it is Intermediate or Senior it will probably involve evenings as well. We try and avoid Friday classes. THERE WILL BE NO PRACTICUM FOR THE MAY COURSES.
The June courses are similarly scheduled but there is a practicum (arranged by the student) that is normally the first week. We schedule around convocation which means Friday classes can't be avoided. The dates are May 28 to June 21. The Practicim week for June AQ courses (Spec. Ed, and FSL) is the week of May 28.
In order to register, you will need to submit your OCT number on WebAdvisor. You should begin the certification process with them now.
You should also contact the Registrar's office now at registrar@nipissingu.ca to determine your eligibility for the Intermediate or Senior ABQ courses. This is necessary to enable your registration.
REGISTRATION OPENS: MARCH 5, 2012
COURSE FEES:
$750 - ABQ COURSES
