I came to Nipissing in 1977 and was involved in helping to build the neuroscience research base at Nipissing with the help of numerous exceptional students. I believe that undergraduates are capable of doing graduate level research if given the chance. I believe that my students have proven this belief to be justified. The undergraduate students in my lab are primarily responsible for not only turning out research projects but with initiating new research. In the lab they learn necessary laboratory, analytical, and research skills. Many also make presentations at national and international conferences and some have even published their work in refereed journals. Because of this early engagement with research the students gain a personal appreciation for research and a love of science. I am pleased to report that we have an exceptionally high acceptance rate of students who have gone through the lab into world class graduate programs. I am also happy that a good number of these lab alumni have gone on to highly productive teaching and research careers in neuroscience.
