There are many year-round activities to enjoy, both on and off-campus. From viewing the beautiful fall colours along Duchesney Falls in September to cross-country skiing and snowshoeing in winter, you’ll have every opportunity to enjoy 20 kilometres of trails right on-campus. Students can sign out cross-country skis and snowshoes free-of-charge from the Athletics Centre. Outdoor enthusiasts may also want to check out Laurentian Ski Hill, located just 10 minutes from Nipissing. This facility is well-known for its downhill skiing and snowboarding. It has one of the best terrain parks in Northern Ontario, featuring a range of mini-rails and beginner box to a 40 foot down flat rail and a 30 foot jump.

Lakes

Lake Nipissing and Trout Lake are located right in North Bay providing you with beautiful beaches, bike paths, great fishing spots and boating options that include cruising Lake Nipissing aboard the Chief Commanda II. For those who like to swim indoors, North Bay’s YMCA recently opened the Aquatic Centre. This facility includes a fully accessible 25 metre multi-lane pool and therapeutic, shallow and wading pools.

Transportation

Although you could hike and bike your way around North Bay, a city transit pass is included as part of your student incidental fees.

For those scholars from outside North Bay who require a visit home (laundry anyone?), transportation options are readily available. The bus/train station and airport are only 15 minutes from campus.

Shopping

North Bay offers a range of shopping choices. Enjoy one-stop shopping in our two malls featuring stores like The Gap, West 49, SportChek and Coles. For a one-of-a-kind shopping experience, explore North Bay’s downtown.

Culture

The Capitol Centre, a beautiful Art Deco building in the middle of downtown, is host to internationally renowned musical and theatrical performances. However, theatre in the city doesn’t stop there! North Bay has many professional theatre groups including the Nipissing Stage Company, located on-campus, and our own student company, Students on Stage.

The city attracts many bands such as Barenaked Ladies, Sloan, Tea Party, Sum 41 and Treble Charger. Many perform right at our campus pub, The Wall.

Security

North Bay has a population of 54,000 and is considered one of the safest cities in which to live.
