Nipissing University’s Office of Aboriginal Initiatives has some exciting upcoming events planned.

Wampum

The Office of Aboriginal Initiatives with local community member Maurice Switzer will share a public presentation on the history and significance of wampum belts this January. This talk will be followed by four open beading sessions with local artist Brenda Lee. Beading sessions will offer students, staff and faculty an opportunity to engage in experiential learning and to contribute to the creation of a replica wampum belt to be displayed in the Treaty Learning Centre in the Harris Learning Library.

Indigenous Scholar in Residence

The Office of Aboriginal Initiatives welcomes Dr. Shauneen Pete, Associate Professor, Educational Administration and Executive Lead of Indigenization from the University of Regina, to Nipissing University January 25 - 29.  During Dr. Pete’s visit she will engage with students, staff and faculty through a number of workshops and public talks on the topic of Indigenization. Click here for a schedule of events.
