Student satisfaction success for NU in Maclean’s

The Maclean’s university rankings are out. Nipissing ranked first in student satisfaction among primarily undergraduate universities in Ontario. Nipissing moved up in a number of categories in this annual issue, and although no surprise to anyone who has stepped onto campus recently, is noted as a leader in student life and residence living, for offering a safe and welcoming campus environment, and for providing excellent student services.

More precisely, Nipissing ranked third in the nation for Student Satisfaction, and ranked in the top five in Canadian Primarily Undergraduate Universities in eight categories, including: Steps to Prevent Sexual Assault, Residence Living, Student Life Staff, Student Services, Mental Health Services, Student Satisfaction, Administrative Staff, and Bureaucracy (Least Red Tape).

Still, with so many positives in key input areas, the reader may not get a clear sense as to how these stats relate to Nipissing’s productivity, the impact that Nipissing has on the region and beyond, or its level of performance.

“We are committed to providing an outstanding university experience for our students, and it is certainly a welcome sight to see that commitment reflected in this survey,” noted university president Dr. Mike DeGagné.  “It’s important to note that the Maclean’s ranking exercise largely measures inputs, such as budgets, library acquisitions, and research dollars. Nipissing is a young school with a beautiful and exceedingly safe campus that excels at providing a quality education and top-notch student experience. Our success in that regard is clearly evidenced in the sections of Maclean’s that discuss students, and in surveys like the Canadian University Consortium Survey (CUSC) and the National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE) that investigate student’s satisfaction and engagement with their school.”
