Nursing games at NU

Everyone loves Nurses.  Nurses are the best.  But which Nurses are the best? We’ll find out this weekend, when Nipissing University hosts the Nursing Games 2017, bringing in some 250 Nursing students from universities all over Ontario to face off in skills testing and sports in hopes of earning the coveted Golden Stethoscope Award.

The Nipissing-Canadore collaborative program team, who is defending the championship they earned last year, will welcome Nursing students from Laurentian University, Queen’s University, Western University, the University of Toronto, the University of Ottawa, McMaster University and the University of Windsor.

Students will get the opportunity to network with peers and health care professionals, and showcase their academic and athletic abilities using teamwork, communication and critical thinking skills.  Games include: Amazing Race – Nurse Edition, a Nursing Simulation Event, Bubble Soccer, Archery Tag, and Human Hungry Hungry Hippos.

A charity dinner takes place on Saturday night with all proceeds going to support the Nipissing Serenity Hospice.

Registration begins on Friday, March 17 at 4 p.m.  Opening ceremonies start at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 18, with games running at the university from 9:45 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. (with a lunch break).  Closing ceremonies run on Sunday, March 19, at 10:30 a.m.

“The Nursing Games are a really unique way for Nursing students to get to know each other and have some fun.  Many of us may be working together as colleagues in the very near future, so this networking can be very valuable,” said Emily Oldrive, head coordinator of the 2017 Nursing Games. “We are very excited to showcase this amazing university and community to our peers from all over the province. North Bay has so many unique qualities that students from other regions may have never been exposed to before and we hope to be able to inspire a future generation of northern and rural nurses.“
