More than 900 students, parents, family, friends and other supporters are touring Nipissing University and North Bay this week as the university is in its third day of hosting the annual New Student Orientation (NSO).

NSO provides students and their families a first taste of what it’s like to be a part of the Nipissing University community and offers first-year students the chance to discover essential information about Nipissing.

Each NSO participant will be provided time to talk to current students about the transition to university to help prepare for classes in September.  In addition, students and their families receive a tour of the campus, residences and learn about the support services, resources, educational and extra-curricular opportunities available to them as Nipissing students.

Volunteering at New Student Orientation is an excellent opportunity for me to share what Nipissing’s great campus.  As a student, I am able to share my past experiences, and answer any questions that both students and supporters may have,” said Kay-lee Welch, NSO assistant and concurrent education student. “I am able to provide insight into the many different services Nipissing University has to offer, especially pertaining to my program and extra curricular activities.”

NSO days are organized around the academic programs available at Nipissing.  This allows incoming students to meet their fellow classmates early and make a connection with some of the people they will be sitting beside during their lectures this September.

"I hope that incoming Lakers are excited about attending Nipissing University in the fall,” said Welch. “By participating in NSO, they will discover more about the campus, including the variety of resources and services available and will meet faculty and potential classmates”
