The space currently known as the Gender Equity Lounge is the most current version of what started at the Nipissing University Women’s Centre in 1999. A small group of dedicated students started the center as a way for students who were passionate about issues of gender equality and social justice to work together on events and awareness campaigns. In recent years, the name of the space has changed from the NU Women’s Centre to the Gender Equity Lounge; however, the values and focus of the space remain. The Gender Equity Lounge has existed as a place for students to gather, organize, rest, study, meet, learn and make change.
