Congratulations to all grads and their families – Convocation starts today


The highlight of the academic year is here.  The culmination of years studying, researching, discussing, collaborating, imagining, writing, planning, critiquing, and much more, is upon us. Convocation starts today at Nipissing University.  (note: there are a few changes to the convocation schedule as previously published in NU News). 

An exciting and important milestone for students and their families, convocation is the time to celebrate!

Each convocation ceremony, including honorary degree speeches, will be streamed live at: www.nipissingu.ca/convocation

Here’s the schedule of events:

Wednesday, June 10, 9:30 a.m.​​

  • Bachelor of Education (Primary/Junior), Aboriginal Teaching Certificate Program, Master of Education
  • Edmund Metatawabin will receive a Honourary Doctorate of Education
  • Valedictorian: James Spaetzel

Wednesday, June 10, 2 p.m.

  • Bachelor of Education (Intermediate/Senior),Advanced Degree in Education, Advanced Degree in Educational Leadership, Bachelor of Physical and Health Education
  • Graeme Murray will receive a Honourary Doctorate of Education
  • Dr. Glenda Black will receive the Chancellors Award for Excellence in Teaching
  • Valedictorian: Richard Abbott​

Thursday, June 11, 9:30 a.m.

  • Bachelor of Education (Junior/Intermediate), Concurrent BEd, 
  • Tom Hedican will recieve an Honorary Doctorate of Education
  • Valedictorian: Jessah Verhoeve

Thursday, June 11, 2 p.m.         

  • Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Business Administration, Bachelor of Commerce
  • Vince Hawkes will receive a Honourary Doctorate of Letters
  • Valedictorian: Hilllary Newman

Friday, June 12, 9:30 a.m.

  • Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Fine Arts, Bachelor of Science in Nursing
  • Susan Nelles Pine will receive an honorary Doctrate of Letters
  • Valedictorian: Suzanne Desa

Friday, June 12, 2 p.m.

  • Bachelor of Arts, Master of Arts, Master of Science, Master of Environmental Studies, Master of Environmental Science, Bachelor of Science
  • Dr. Colin Simpson will receive an Honourary Doctorate of Letters
  • Joseph Boivin will receive the Nipissing University Teaching Award for CASBU Members
