The three day championship tournament will feature eight teams from across Ontario. The top two teams in each division qualify for the championships; the remaining four teams are determined by crossover playoff matches. The Lakers team currently holds second place in the OCAA West division with a 12 – 1 record, two points back of the Humber Hawks and two points up on the Mohawk Mountaineers. This will be the first major tournament to be held in Nipissing’s newly expanded Robert J. Surtees Athletics Centre, which opened this year. The expansion includes a new 20,000 square-foot gymnasium that features seating for 1,200 spectators and a 17-foot by 11-foot jumbotron video board for highlights and videos. The facility also features a Living Wall, an interior wall completely covered with vegetation, that improves air quality and reduces heating costs while offering some very cool aesthetic value as well.
