This year’s festival brings together a diverse collection of award-winning Canadian feature and short films and provides something of interest to everyone. Local talent will also be showcased in our short film program.
We are especially excited to host a gala event Saturday, February 11 at the WKP Kennedy Gallery, celebrating the locally-filmed feature I'M YOURS, with director Leonard Farlinger. Farlinger will be here to present his latest film as well as discuss the film’s production and his experiences in the North Bay area.The Canadian Film Festival is a year-long planning effort by a number of dedicated and eager volunteers who have worked to select, plan and bring together this wonderful opportunity to engage audiences with thought-provoking, engaging and stimulating films.
All screenings are at the Capitol Centre in downtown North Bay. Tickets are on sale now at the Capitol Centre Box Office and online at www.capitolcentre.org. Regular tickets are $10. Gala tickets (Friday and Saturday evening) are $12 and include admission to the gala reception. All-access weekend passes are available for $70 for non-members (or $60 for North Bay Film members). The films to be screened at the festival are as follows (schedule TBA): STARBUCK (French with English subtitles), A comedy recently named to the prestigious Top-10 list published by the Toronto International Film Festival.
CLOUDBURST, Won accolades at the Atlantic Film Festival in Halifax (People's Choice Award; Award for Best Screenplay), Cinéfest Sudbury International Film Festival (Audience Choice Award); and Edmonton International Film Festival (Best Canadian Film; runner-up for the Edmonton People’s Choice Award).
SURVIVING PROGRESS, based on the best-selling book, A Short History Of Progress, is a documentary that explores how past civilizations were destroyed by "progress traps"—alluring technologies and belief systems that serve immediate needs, but ransom the future.
CAFÉ DE FLORE (French with English subtitles), the latest film by Jean-Marc Valee (C.R.A.Z.Y., THE YOUNG VICTORIA) is a love story that moves between 1960s Paris and modern-day Montreal.
I’M YOURS, Shot in the North Bay area in the fall of 2010, I’M YOURS is a comic romance about two lost souls on an illuminating road trip from Manhattan to the wilds of Northern Canada. Writer/Direcor Leonard Farlinger will be at the film screening and gala following the film.
MONSIEUR LAZHAR (French with English subtitles), From TIFF darling Philippe Falardeau (La Moitié gauche du frigo, Congorama, C’est pas moi, je le jure!) and the producers of last year’s smash-hit Incendies comes Monsieur Lazhar, one of the most gripping québécois films of the last decade.
A DANGEROUS METHOD, Seduced by the challenge of an impossible case, the driven Dr. Carl Jung (Michael Fassbender) takes the unbalanced yet beautiful Sabina Spielrein (Keira Knightley) as his patient in A Dangerous Method. Jung's weapon is the method of his master, the renowned Sigmund Freud (Viggo Mortensen). Both men fall under Sabina's spell in David Cronenberg’s latest film.

North Bay Film has been operating in North Bay for the past 21 years. We are a non-profit, volunteer-run group dedicated to providing a diverse cultural experience through film and film-related events. Our primary goal is to bring films to the North Bay community that would not otherwise be screened locally and provide the opportunity for community members to access critically acclaimed and international films while they are still in their theatrical release. In addition to the annual Canadian Film Festival, North Bay Film runs a popular biweekly film series on Wednesday evenings at Galaxy Cinemas.
