**NOTE** We have found that, in general, users encounter fewer technical issues when they use Mozilla Firefox with Blackboard.

If your problem does not resemble any listed here, e-mail the Centre for Flexible Teaching and Learning or telephone 705-474-3450 or 3461, x. 4343.

  1. Every time I try to log in, I'm sent to a page that has nothing to do with my course.

  2. My course has downloadable files but they won't open.

  3. When I click on a link, I get an error message that the page/file can't be found.

  4. HELP! Suddenly I can't upload a file attachment! I could in the past - what gives?

  5. I'm having trouble getting my assignment to my instructor. Can the In-Service office forward it instead?

  6. I sent an e-mail to my instructor but I can't find a reply in my course E-mail tool.

  7. I'm not sure that Blackboard has my e-mail address. How do I make sure?

I'm sent to a page that has nothing to do with my course.

This kind of event indicates that you have spyware on your machine - specifically a "browser hijacker". They usually get into systems secretly when people download and install free programs. Many anti-virus programs DO NOT detect spyware and specific anti-spyware software is needed to identify and remove them. If your system has fallen victim to mutliple infections (very common), you may need to install and run several anti-spyware programs to completely eradicate all such 'malware'. Please check Useful Downloads for software suggestions.

My course has downloadable files but they won't open.

This probably due to a "popup blocker" installed on your system. These programs are designed to suppress those annoying ads and come-ons that many sites throw your way. However, they can also interfere with legitimate popup windows. You will have to do one of two things:

  1. configure the blocker program to allow popups from the URL blackboard.nipissingu.ca.

    OR

  2. disable the blocker when you are in your course

HELP! Suddenly I can't upload a file attachment!

This can usually be remedied by clearing the Java cache.

If your system uses a Windows OS:

  1. Go to the Start menu and open the Control Panel.

  2. Make sure that Control Panel is displaying in Classic View.

  3. Find the Java icon (it resembles a cup of coffee) and click to open its dialog box.

  4. On the General tab, under the Temporary Internet Files heading, click Delete Files.

  5. Confirm that all items are checked and then click OK.

  6. Close the dialog box and Control Panel.

  7. Close and restart your browser.

If your system uses a Mac OS:

  1. Open the Finder and then open Applications.

  2. Within Applications, open the Utilities folder and then open Java Preferences.

  3. Open the Network category and click Delete Files.

  4. Confirm that all items are checked and then click OK.

  5. Close all dialog boxes.

  6. Close and restart your browser.

Can the In-Service office forward it instead?

The In-Service Office cannot take responsibility for assignments. If you are having difficulty submitting an assignment, please check our troubleshooting page. If your problem is not addressed there, please contact the Centre for Flexible Teaching and Learning directly.

I Can't Find a Reply in the Course E-mail

The E-mail tool in Blackboard connects directly to the Nipissing e-mail account we have on record for each instructor and student. If you have never logged into your Nipissing Google Mail account, please refer to the Log In page for instructions.

How Do I Make Sure Blackboard has my e-Mail Address?

Once you have logged into Blackboard, look for the Tools section on your My Institution page. In this section, click the Personal Information link. On the page that appears, click Edit Personal Information. Scroll down to check that the e-mail text field provides your Nipissing student e-mail address. If it is not there, you can add it and then click Submit to save the change. The To Log In page includes directions on how to access this account if you have never done so.
